What treatment might I need?

The next step would be a treatment plan, and that would be put together by your breast specialist after multidisciplinary team meeting. And those steps would be surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormonal therapy, and those are the 4 ways in which breast cancer are treated. It may be that you have 1 of those treatments, a combination of all 4, or just 2 of them. This will be fully explained to you by your breast specialist with a breast care nurse present.

At the end of the consultation, we'll give you some written information and a contact number so that when you get home and you're reading through your information, if there's something you don't understand then you've got a contact number that you can ring to verify what it is and what your concerns may be around what's going to happen next and so that nobody is actually alone once they've had the breast cancer diagnosis.

From when I was diagnosed, I tried to remain positive. My partner was really positive for me as well. I had a lot of friends and family who were very, very supportive, and the people within The Haven as well have been fantastically supportive. And I think if you can go into treatments with a really good, positive attitude about it, then I think it just makes the journey through the treatments just so much easier.
