Mitochondrial DNA copy number and risk of oral cancer: A report from Northeast India

OSCC, the most frequent tumour of oral cavity, [1] and the sixth most common cancer globally that accounts for approximately 5 per cent of all malignant tumours worldwide [2], [3]. The statistical analysis by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) indicated that the lip and oral cavity is the tenth most common tumour site in the human [4]. Smokeless tobacco products and betel quid with or without tobacco are the major risk factors for oral cavity cancer in Taiwan, India, and other neighboring countries.
