Checklist improves essential childbirth care practices

Implementation of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Safe Childbirth Checklist program during childbirth led to improvement in the delivery of essential care practices, according to a prospective pilot study conducted at a sub-district level birth center in Karnataka, India.

Currently, the infant mortality rate per 1,000 live births in India is 48 – almost 5% of infants—and the maternal mortality rate per 100,000 live births is 200, as estimated by the UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation reported by The World Bank.
